HC Deb 10 February 1983 vol 36 c456W
Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the progress of his efforts to put the Northern Ireland case across to the American people, referred to in the answer to the hon. Member for Workington (Mr. Campbell-Savours) on 23 December, Official Report, c. 1056–58.

Mr. Prior

Our diplomatic representatives in the USA make a continuous effort to improve understanding of Northern Ireland issues there. They are supported by periodic visits by Northern Ireland Office Ministers. I am satisfied that, despite the hostile preconceptions of a segment of Irish-American opinion, American understanding of Northern Ireland's problems is increasing.
