HC Deb 10 February 1983 vol 36 cc471-2W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland which local government district council areas have still to have their ward boundaries ratified as a result of the most recent review; how long they have been waiting for ratification; and when he expects to issue orders to ratify them.

Mr. Younger

The ward boundaries of the following district council areas remain to be ratified following the most recent reviewArgyll and Bute, Clydebank, Clydesdale, Dumbarton, Kilmarnock and Loudoun, Motherwell and Strathkelvin.

The boundaries for these areas have been awaiting ratification for periods ranging from September 1980 to April 1982. In addition the local government boundary commission has recently resumed its review in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth district and Gordon district.

I expect to make orders in the course of this year to bring the new boundaries into operation in time for the district council elections in May 1984.
