Mr. Strang

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many males, females and young people under 18 years have been unemployed for more than one year in the Edinburgh travel-to-work area at the latest available date; and how this figure compares with the figure for each of the previous three years.

The following table shows the numbers of males, females, and young people under 18 years of age registered as unemployed for over 52 weeks at jobcentres and careers offices in the Edinburgh travel-to-work area—the old basis of the count—on 14 October 1982, the latest date for which the information is available, and in October in each of the previous three years.
