Mr Straw

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish in the Official Report tables giving a breakdown of age and duration of unemployment in each of the Blackburn, Accrington, Burnley, Nelson and Rossendale travel-to-work areas for age groups under 18 years, 18 years, 19 years, 20 to 24 years, 25 to 29 years, 30 to 34 years, 35 to 44 years, 45 to 54 years, 55 to 59 years and 60 to 64 years, for durations of up to 13, 26 and 52 weeks, and over 52 weeks, for the year 1982 or such part of it in respect of which the figures required are presently available, and on a comparable basis to his answer to the hon. Member for Blackburn on 13 May 1982, Official Report c. 330.

[pursuant to his reply, 27 January 1983, c. 509–11]: I an writing to the hon. Member sending him tables giving the numbers registered as unemployed—the old basis of the unemployment count-for the age and duration categories specified at April, July and October 1982. A copy of the tables is also being deposited in the House of Commons Library.
