asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a statement on his recent visit to the People's Republic of China.

Mr. MacGregor

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Industry visited the People's Republic of China from 14 to 18 January 1983. His host was Madam Chen Muhua, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade, with whom he discussed trade relations and China's development plans. He also met Vice Premier Wan Li and other Ministers and officials responsible for industry, energy and planning. The main purpose of his visit was to promote British industrial and trade interests in China, including a number of major new projects.
