HC Deb 20 December 1983 vol 51 cc129-30W
Mr. David Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he will publish a table showing the average price being charged to industry for new contracts for non-interruptible supply of natural gas, comparing the United Kingdom with France, West Germany, Italy, Belgium and Holland.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

Data giving average prices to industry for new contracts for "non-interruptible" supply of natural gas is not available. The table gives the latest available information on prices paid for firm gas supply by the typical industrial consumer.

European Industrial Gas Prices* to the Typical Consumer
Country 1/10 Million Therms/Annum P/Therm Firm Supplies
Belgium 27.7–29.6
France 23.7–27.1
Germany 26.3–37.0
Italy 26.5–28.1
Netherlands 25.3–26.5
United Kingdom 30.3
