Galvanised reinforcement is not used in the Department's roads and bridges.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what steps he takes to ensure the correct water proofing and correct concrete strength in motorway construction in order to prevent water leakage and the corrosion that follows.

Concrete in carriageways and structures and the water-proofing of bridge decks are required to meet the Department's specifications which are regularly updated in the light of experience and developments.
