§ 18. Mr. Ray Powellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the projected level of expenditure on further education for 1983–84 and 1984–85.
§ Mr. BrookeThe projected level of net recurrent expenditure by local authorities in England on further education in 1983–84, based on their budgets, is about £1,540 million. For 1984–85 the amount allowed for further education within the total of local authority relevant current expenditure allocated to services is £1,535 million, but this takes no account of the £660 million not allocated to services.
§ 33. Mr. Ralph Howellasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what written evidence he has that Her Majesty's inspectors of schools have criticised Norfolk and three other education authorities for spending too little on some aspects of education.
§ Sir Keith JosephHer Majesty's Inspectorate has not criticised Norfolk or any other local education authority for spending too little on some aspects of education. In its reports on the effects of local authority expenditure policies on the education service, Her Majesty's Inspectorate has stated that in 1981 and in 1982 there were four authorities in which the levels of appropriate provision observed in schools were a cause for concern to Her Majesty's Inspectorate. In each year, having been so informed by Her Majesty's Inspectorate, Norfolk has identified itself publicly as one of those four authorities.
