HC Deb 20 December 1983 vol 51 c201W
Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the average amount of allowable rent a single person living in rented accommodation on a basic retirement pension would receive, assuming he lived alone and had no other income, in Norwich, Finsbury Park (London), Yarmouth, Surbiton, Diss and Highgate (London).

Dr. Boyson

A single householder living alone, and with no income other than a basic retirement pension, would almost certainly qualify for supplementary benefit, and would therefore also be entitled to certificated housing benefit which would normally cover his full eligible rent. Information on average eligible rents is not available.
