HC Deb 19 December 1983 vol 51 c81W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what investigations are taking place into radioactivity levels in seaweed off the west Cumberland coast in the area from Harrington to Allonby.

Mr. MacGregor

Following the recent incident at Sellafield, monitoring of the beaches has been concentrated largely on the area between Eskmeals and St. Bees Head, where it might be expected that material contaminated as a result of the incident is most likely to be found. However, British Nuclear Fuels Ltd. has undertaken some monitoring at Harrington but no seaweed with enhanced levels of radioactivity was found.
