HC Deb 19 December 1983 vol 51 c81W
Mr. Arnold

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied with the arrangements governing the marking of country of origin of dairy products in retail outlets.

Mr. MacGregor

Regulations already require all prepackaged dairy products to bear an indication of the place of origin when not to do so might mislead a purchaser to a material degree as to the true origin of the food. This requirement is derived from a Community harmonisation Directive 79/112/EEC which has been implemented by the Food Labelling Regulations 1980 as regards foods generally, and by the Milk (Special Designation) (Amendment) Regulation 1982, the Milk and Dairies (Semi-skimmed) (Heat Treatment and Labelling) (Amendment) Regulations 1982 and the Importation of Milk Regulations 1983 as regards milk.
