§ Mr. Andrew F. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much aid was provided to overseas students in 1983 on the Foreign Office Vote; and from which countries those students come.
§ Mr. RaisonDetailed returns of expenditure in 1983 are not yet available but assistance to students and trainees under the programmes of the Overseas Development Administration is expected to exceed £45 million. Other programmes for which the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is responsible are expected to cost over £6 million. In addition, the British Council runs its own scholarship scheme from resources provided by the FCO, which is expected to account for nearly £3 million.
