Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is his estimate of the cost of installing motorway lights throughout the remaining parts of the motorway system, including the whole of the M25.

Mrs. Chalker

The initial cost of installing lighting throughout the remaining parts of the motorway system is approximately £90 million, including £7 million for the M25. The corresponding running costs, including maintenance, are estimated to be about £9 million per annum.
