HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 cc401-2W
Q28. Mr. Foulkes

asked the Prime Minister if she will give the source of the statistics which demonstrate that there is a net increase in the number of jobs in the electronics industry in Scotland.

The Prime Minister

According to the census of employment, electronics employment in Scotland was 37,200 in September 1981. The Industry Department for Scotland estimates, on the basis of information currently available to it, that electronics employment in Scotland in mid-1983 is likely to exceed 40,000, and that net employment therefore rose between 1981 and 1983. The electronics industry is defined in terms of the minimum list heading 354 and 363–7 of the 1968 standard industrial classification.
