HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 c440W
Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if those who will be transferred to the new disablement benefit, but whose disability is classified at less than 80 per cent., will continue to draw benefit indefinitely subject only to an incapacity to work test.

Mr. Newton

Yes.

Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if the Social Security Advisory Committee's advice was sought before the announcement of the new disablement benefit.

Mr. Newton

No. But in formulating the new scheme we took account of their expressed wish to see the end of the household duties test for housewives non-contributory invalidity pension, which our proposals achieve.
