HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 cc423-4W
20. Mrs. Jill Knight

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he intends taking to improve the deputising services through which doctors can be contacted at night and at weekends; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Halifax (Mr. Galley) earlier today.

75. Mr. Christopher Hawkins

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he expects to make a statement about the monitoring of doctors deputising services.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

The analysis of the 90 replies which I have received to my letter of 26 July to family practitioner committee chairmen, together with those to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales and from other interested bodies such as community health councils, is now complete. They have provided a wealth of detailed material from which we have identified a number of shortcomings in the existing arrangements. I hope to make a statement soon.
