HC Deb 13 December 1983 vol 50 c423W
19. Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, in view of the significance of the work being done by the Royal Manchester children's hospital and the preliminary provision it has made for a bone marrow transplant unit, he will consider giving additional aid to the hospital for special work in this field.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I should like to assure the hon. Member that I am very much aware of the work being done on BMT in the North-Western region, including the RMCH. It was developments such as these that led the Government to decide that further development of BMT should be on a regional basis. It will now be for RHAs to decide how best their services can be developed and at what pace, taking into account their priorities. I am sure that in considering the development of its services, the North-Western RHA will take account of the facilities in the region.
