Mr. Montgomery

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he is in a position to announce the capital expenditure allocations for local authority airport investment in 1984–85.

I have decided to designate as projects of national and regional importance the following new airport investment schemes and to make the appropriate capital expenditure allocations for 1984–85:

Airports and Scheme

Manchester

  • Splitter island surfacing
  • Operational control centre
  • Auto docking
  • West apron covered accommodation
  • Airport link road contribution

East Midlands

  • New concourse and departure lounge.
  • Radar replacement
  • Precision approach path indicators
  • Car parks

Bournemouth

  • Navigational aids
  • Electrical system renewal
  • Runway resurfacing and repairs

Norwich

  • New terminal

Carlisle

  • Fire vehicle replacement
  • Update of navigational aids

Southend

  • Clearways

Newcastle

  • Major new fire appliance

Bristol

  • Apron stand

Teesside

  • Fire tender

Cardiff

  • Motor transport depot

Luton

  • Runway end reconstruction

Humberside

  • Control tower equipment

In addition, capital expenditure allocations will be made for the following schemes which have already been so designated and where construction is already in hand or now largely completed:

The total public expenditure provision for 1984–85 for regional airport development will amount to £32.9 million.
