HL Deb 12 December 1983 vol 446 c89WA
Lord Orr-Ewing

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many new frequencies in the VHF and UHF hands have been allocated to the 47 companies providing mobile radio services in the last year; and how this number compares with promises made by Ministers in December 1982.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

On 1st January 1983, 52 additional channels were made available at UHF for land mobile services in London. A further 10 channels are currently being made available at VHF throughout the country for common base station and message handling services. In London the number of additional channels available may be greater than10. I am not aware of the promises referred to.
