§ Mr. LawsonThe conventional assumption made for the autumn statement was that child benefit would be uprated by the movement in prices in the 12 months to May 1984, currently assumed to be 5½ per cent. The actual decision on the level of child benefit from November 1984 will be taken in the light of all relevant circumstances and announced at the appropriate time next year.
