§ Mr. Dubsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much money is being redistributed in 1983–84 by way of the London rate equalisation scheme; and how much he expects to be so redistributed in the financial year following the prospective abolition of the Greater London council.

The White Paper "Streamlining the Cities" stated the Government's aim to maintain the existing balance between London ratepayers, following the disappearance of the GLC precept, by extending the London rate equalisation scheme. My Department issued a consultation document about this on 26 October. It is not possible at this stage to forecast the size of the resulting pool for redistribution.
