§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if it is the practice of the Metropolitan police to attend court when a complainant is being charged arising out of the circumstances in which he made the complaint.
§ Mr. MayhewWhen criminal proceedings are brought by the police, they are represented by the appropriate officers or members of the solicitor's department. Where the defendant has made a formal complaint it is not the normal practice in the Metropolitan police for the investigating officer to attend court. This is, however, a matter for the judgment of the investigating officer in the particular circumstances of the case.
