Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many beds each hospital within the West Midlands regional health authority had available for orthopaedic surgery; and, in each case, how many hip replacement operations were carried out therein in each of the last five years.

The attached table indicates the average daily number of beds available for orthopaedic surgery in hospitals in the West Midlands region in 1981 (the latest figures available centrally).

The number of hip replacement operations carried out in individual hospitals is not available centrally.
