§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science why the reports on "Education 5 to 9" and "The New Teachers in School" by his Department include a statement, separate from the text of the report, to the effect that no assumption can be made about Government commitment to the provision of additional resources as a result of the reports.
§ Mr. WaldegraveAll such reports by Her Majesty's Inspectors include a statement on these lines. It is for HMI to report and comment on evidence gathered; it is for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State and local authorities to decide what action might be taken within available resources.
