Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Basildon of 22 October,Official Report, c. 223, if he will publish in the Official Report an analysis of the Government's expenditure on their repatriation scheme in the financial year 1981–82 in respect of costs of staff, administration, travel and baggage allowances to applicants.

The audited accounts of the repatriation scheme operated by International Social Service of Great Britain under section 29 of the Immigration Act 1971 show that expenditure under these heads in 1981–82 was as follows:

As promised in my reply to my hon. Friend on 14 June—[Vol. 25, c. 188]—I am sending him a copy on the audited accounts and placing a copy in the Library of the House.

Member for Basildon of 22 October,Official Report, c. 223, if he will set out the reasons, tabulated under the criteria governing the repatriation scheme in the Immigration Act 1971, for the refusal of assistance under that scheme to 208 of the 459 applicants.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what arrangements exist for deciding the level of public funds paid by his Department to the International Social Service of Great Britain in respect of its administration of the Government' repatriation scheme.

The grants to International Social Service of Great Britain in respect of its operation of the repatriation scheme under section 29 of the Immigration Act 1971 appear in the Supply Estimates, Class IV, Vote 7. The Estimates for these grants, which are subject to a cash limit, are prepared by the Home Office, in consultation with ISS.
