HC Deb 29 November 1982 vol 33 c20W
16. Mr. Madel

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a statement on the prospects for the British commercial vehicle manufacturing industry.

Mr. Butcher

There has been a slight recovery in domestic sales in the first 10 months of 1982 from the very low levels of the previous year and this has been reflected in higher United Kingdom output. However, the industry, a traditionally strong exporter, is still seriously affected by the world-wide recession and there remains substantial under utilisation of capacity.
