§ Mr. Newensasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the future of defence arrangements between the United Kingdom and Brunei after the latter attains independence in December 1983.
§ Mr. BlakerArrangements for advice and assistance for the Armed Forces of the State of Brunei and for the use by the United Kingdom of training facilities in the State, due to take effect after December 1983, are set out in an exchange of notes dated 7 January 1979 and published in Cmnd. 7496. This will take effect from 31 December 1983. We hope to discuss other aspects of our defence relationship with the Sultan of Brunei in the near future.
