HC Deb 24 November 1982 vol 32 c524W
Sir David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list in the Official Report the measures which have been taken by the Council of Ministers of the European Community since May towards the formulation and practice of a common European transport policy.

Mr. David Howell

The European Community's Council of Ministers—Transport—has met once since May this year, on 10 June. At that meeting, the Council adopted the following measures towards establishment of a common transport policy:

  1. (a) Directive on the promotion of combined transport (Directive 82/603/EEC);
  2. (b) Regulation on the provision of State aids to certain combined transport facilities (Regulation 1658/82);
  3. (c) Directive on the harmonisation of technical requirements for inland waterway vessels (Directive 82/714/EEC), and
  4. (d) Decision on rail freight tariffs (Directive 82/529/EEC)

The Council reached conclusions on further steps towards a Community policy for transport infrastructure aid; on the monitoring of East bloc road haulage; and on international railway co-operation.
