HC Deb 11 November 1982 vol 31 cc246-7W
Mr. Chapman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the figure of total public expenditure in 1981–82; and how this compares in real terms with 1978–79.

Mr. Brittan

As shown in table 2.2 of the autumn statement 1982, the latest estimate of outturn on the public expenditure planning total in 1981–82 is £105.3 billion. The table also shows that the figure for 1978–79 in 1981–82 cost terms is £101 billion. Thus, in constant prices, outturn on the planning total in 1981–82 is over 4 per cent. above 1978–79.

Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Norfolk, North on 8 June 1982, Official Report, c. 83, if he will now give details for each of the years 1960, 1970, 1980 and 1981, of (a) central Government expenditure, (b) local government expenditure and (c) National Health Service expenditure; and if he will show each figure as a percentage of gross domestic product.
