HC Deb 11 November 1982 vol 31 c247W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how the cost of the Falklands Islands war and related activities will be funded; what repayments will be made of Contingency Fund money used for such financing; and what effect this will have on other sectors of expenditure.

Mr. Brittan

Costs in relation to the Falkland Islands, like all public expenditure, will be met from within the planning totals, and will be funded in a manner consistent with the Government's economic strategy. To the extent that money is spent in connection with the Falklands, it is not available for other public expenditure programmes.

Repayments of Contingencies Fund advances which have been made in respect of compensation to civilians for injury and loss and of rehabilitation work will be made when the relevant Supplementary Estimates receive parliamentary approval.
