Income Tax and National Insurance Surcharge

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to reduce the number of people paying income tax and national insurance surcharge further to reduce this disincentive to gainful employment.

In the autumn statement on November 8, my right hon. and learned Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a reduction in the rate of NIS. It remains our intention to reduce the burden of personal taxation when circumstances permit.
