HC Deb 11 November 1982 vol 31 cc213-4W
Mr. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the present position on the review of the building control system in Scotland which he announced on 20 May 1981, Official Report, columns 115–16.

Mr. Younger

In the light of the preliminary consultations so far undertaken I have considered a wide range of options for rationalising the building control system in Scotland. I have concluded that the objectives underlying my review could largely be met under the existing provisions of the Building (Scotland) Acts, and on this basis I am giving priority to refining a number of possible improvements within the framework of the present arrangements and will proceed to full public consultation on developed proposals in due course. At the same time I shall continue to have regard to the development of proposals by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment for changes in the parallel system of building control in England and Wales.
