Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on the conflict in the Lebanon and on the extent of Israeli involvement.

Mr. Hurd

We have told the Israeli Government that we see great dangers in Israel's failure to comply with the Security Council's demands for its immediate withdrawal from Lebanon. We are particularly concerned at the appalling loss of life and devastation among the civilian population in Lebanon. The Foreign Ministers of the Ten issued a statement on 9 June which vigorously condemns the Israeli action.
