HC Deb 08 June 1982 vol 25 cc41-2W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many applications he has so far received from employers regarding the young workers scheme; what plans he has to integrate this scheme into the new training scheme, if he will ensure a guaranteed training content for each young adult employed in this scheme; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

There have been over 70,000 applications received so far under the young workers scheme.

My right hon. Friend is currently considering the report of the manpower Services Commission's youth task group.

The young workers scheme is primarily intended to improve job opportunities for youngsters and there is no mandatory training requirement. The Government are already providing substantial support for the training of young people.
