Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for Employment when he expects the Manpower Services Commission to report back on the details of the scheme announced in the Budget to provide the longer-term unemployed with greater opportunities of working on community projects; and whether any provisional date has yet been fixed for the implementation of the scheme.

The Manpower Services Commission will be considering formal proposals for a scheme al: its meeting on 22 June. A date for implementation of the scheme will need to be decided after the Government have received the commission's proposals.
