asked the Minister for the Civil Service what evidence she has about the attitude of the professional accountants class in the Civil Service towards the introduction of functional specialism for accountants within the administration group.

My right hon. and noble Friend the Lord Privy Seal is aware that there is concern amongst members of the professional accountant class about the implications of the introduction of the accountancy functional specialism within the administration group. We expect that one result will be a widening of career prospects for qualified accountants, and that therefore any fears will prove unjustified.
