HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 cc779-80W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why it was at a late date in his appointment as Queen's police officer that former Commander Trestrail was positively vetted.

Mr. Whitelaw

At the time of Commander Trestrail's appointment the post was not included among those judged by the Metropolitan Police to meet the criterion for positive vetting. During a recent general review of posts they took a different view. The task of analysing what happened and making recommendations as to the future now falls to Lord Bridge.

Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will place before Lord Bridge who is to examine matters connected with the resignation of ex-Commander Trestrail all communications made to him in his official position in connection with this matter, including those from hon. Members.

Mr. Whitelaw

I shall place all communications before Lord Bridge which are relevant to his inquiry. In this context I shall pass on documents at the request of hon. Members.
