HC Deb 30 July 1982 vol 28 cc740-1W
Mr. David Young

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how much compensation has been paid for the use and loss of the "Atlantic Conveyor."

Mr. Blaker

This is still under negotiation with the owners. The Department of Trade is responsible for payment of compensation for the loss of the "Atlantic Conveyor". Compensation for her use is a matter for the Ministry of Defence, but it would be contrary to normal practice to disclose the precise amount paid. The Ministry of Defence is making available funding to support the building of a replacement for the "Atlantic Conveyor" given the potential role of this ship as a reserve defence asset.
