§ 36. Mr. Corrieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many fish farms producing (a) salmon and (b) rainbow trout are operating in Scotland; and how many new farms have applied for grants in 1982.
§ Mr. YoungerIn 1981, the latest year for which figures are available, returns to my Department indicate that in Scotland salmon farming was established at 27 fresh water and 35 sea sites: and trout farming was established at 84 sites. There is more than one scheme of assistance for which fish farmers, depending on their circumstances, can apply. I am aware of five applications for financial assistance that have been received in 1982 in respect of new fish farms.
