HC Deb 28 July 1982 vol 28 c529W
Mr. Roper

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he now considers it necessary that the elections for the European Parliament in 1984 will take place on the same boundaries as those used in 1979; and if he will make a statement;

(2) when the Boundary Commission now expects to complete its review of boundaries for constituencies for the European Parliament.

Mr. Mayhew

The Boundary Commissions in Great Britain cannot proced with their reviews of European Assembly constituencies until Orders in Council giving effect to new parliamentary constituencies have come into force. We understand that the Boundary Commission for England considers it unlikely that it will be able to complete the review of the European Assembly constituencies in England before the summer of 1984.
