HC Deb 06 July 1982 vol 27 c99W
Mr. Durant

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he plans to increase payments for the good maintenance of houses acquired for slum clearance.

Mr. Stanley

My right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for the Environment and for Wales have today laid before Parliament the Housing (Payments for Well-Maintained Houses) Order 1982 for approval by resolution of both Houses. The amount of a well-maintained payment is ascertained by applying a multiplier to the rateable value of the property in question. The new order increases the present multiplier of 3⅛ to 14. The new multiplier will apply to payments made in respect of compulsary purchase and other relevant orders made on or after today where the payment is made after this new statutory instrument becomes operative.

The new multiplier reflects the increase in maintenance costs since well-maintained payments were last increased, in 1972.
