§ Mr. John Grantasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many sheltered industrial groups are currently in progress; how many sheltered industrial group schemes he expects to begin during the rest of 1982; if he will encourage the expansion of sheltered industrial groups by withdrawing the requirement of a 10 per cent. contribution within the maximum limit for voluntary bodies sponsoring sheltered industrial groups where losses arise; and if he will promote a publicity campaign for sheltered industrial groups.
§ Mr. AlisonThere are currently 104 sheltered industrial group schemes in operation employing 333 severely disabled people, and, at the current rate of progress, about 25 more schemes might be expected to begin during the rest of 1982. Both I and the Manpower Services Commission want to encourage the expansion of sheltered industrial groups within the limits of available resources. The commission is currently reviewing its funding and administration. The commission's local disablement resettlement staff are already responsible for publicising sheltered industrial groups and the review will be considering the need for further publicity.
