HC Deb 06 July 1982 vol 27 c87W
Mr. Alan Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will now give details of the ship's manifest of the "Atlantic Conveyor"; and how much of the equipment thereon was lost as a result of its destruction.

Mr. Blaker

Further to my reply on 22 June to my hon. Friend the Member for Northampton, North (Mr. Marlow)—[Vol. 26, c.71]—I can now confirm that the "Atlantic Conveyor" sank on 29 May with the loss of some of her cargo including three Chinook helicopters and six Wessex V helicopters. Also lost were engineering construction equipment, aircraft spares support, aircraft refuelling equipment, ammunition, food, stores and tentage. Eight Sea Harriers and one Chinook had already been flown off the "Atlantic Conveyor" before the attack. It was not possible to save any more of the cargo before the ship sank.
