§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeIn England, 54 miles of local authority motorway are currently in use and 10 miles are under construction. In addition, we have confirmed two miles of route under the Highways Act 1980, but local authorities may be planning other lengths which have not yet been brought to our notice either in their bids for transport supplementary grant or for confirmation.
