HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c33W
Mr. Ancram

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has received representations with regard to allowing transatlantic flights directly into Turnhouse airport; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

A few representations have been received, both for and against allowing transatlantic flights to operate to and from Edinburgh airport.

The British Airports Authority's policy is that intercontinental flights to and from Scotland should use Prestwick airport. Exceptions are made for individual charter flights associated with events in Lothian region. This policy is designed to use existing airport facilities in Scotland in the most economic way and has been endorsed by the Government.
