HC Deb 18 January 1982 vol 16 c15W
Mr. Tilley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Metropolitan Police have implemented Lord Scarman's recommendation that in-service training on community relations should be compulsory for all ranks up to and including superintendents.

Mr. Mayhew

All ranks in the Metropolitan Police up to and including the rank of chief superintendent are given instruction in community relations. These arrangements are being reviewed to see what changes are needed in the light of Lord Scarman's recommendations.

Mr. Tilley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the Metropolitan Police have implemented Lord Scarman's recommendation that greater attention should be given to management training for inspectors and sergeants.

Mr. Mayhew

There is already a considerable management element in Metropolitan Police training courses for sergeants and inspectors, but this is being reviewed in the light of Lord Scarman's report, particularly in relation to supervisory training.
