§ Mr. Kilroy-Silkasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the use of police cells to house prisoners recently, he will now implement section 3 of the Imprisonment (Temporary Provisions) Act to release prisoners.
§ Mr. WhitelawI have no intention at this stage of implementing section 3 of the Imprisonment (Temporary Provisions) Act 1980. As a result of alternative emergency arrangements made for the accommodation of untried prisoners in the London area, the use of police cells has considerably reduced; no prisoners were held overnight in police cells on 7 or 8 or since 9 February.
