§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Trade if, in view of the number of increases in postal charges, which have amounted to more than 400 per cent. in the past 10 years, and in view of the reduced level in 63W services and reliability, he will refer the matter of postal charges and services to the Director General of Fair Trading in pursuance of his competition policy, or to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission for its further consideration.
§ Mr. EyreMy right hon. Friend has no immediate plans for such a reference. But, like other nationalised industries, the Post Office remains a candidate for future reference to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission in due course.
