§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he is satisfied that there are sufficient tax officers in post to administer efficiently and without undue delay the tax affairs of the general public;
(2) if he has any plans to increase the number of tax officers in post.
§ Mr. RidleyAs a result of legislative changes and improvements in efficiency, the number of staff in the tax officer grade has been reduced significantly since we came into office. I am satisfied that the present number of officers in this grade is adequate for the purposes required.
§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether promotions to tax officer are being delayed; and, if so, for what reason.
§ Mr. RidleyNo. Staff can be promoted to the tax officer grade only as and when vacancies occur in their locality.
