HC Deb 09 February 1982 vol 17 cc303-4W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish in the Official Report the number of Metropolitan Police cadets who have been educated at the expense of the London boroughs of Brent and Barnet at Kilburn polytechnic during each of the four years together with his estimate of the cost involved.

Mr. Mayhew

Under a long-standing arrangement, the borough councils of Brent and Barnet share the cost of providing teaching staff for academic training at the Metropolitan Police cadet training school at Hendon. Information about the cost to the councils over the last four years is not available to us. The number of cadets entering the school in each of the last four years is as follows:

1978 662
1979 549
1980 542
1981 418

Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will reimburse the London borough of Brent for the cost of training Metropolitan Police cadets who are not residents of that borough for the training they have received at Kilburn polytechnic during the last three years.

Mr. Mayhew

No; these costs were met by the borough council in accordance with the long-standing arrangement between the council and the receiver.
